Education and HealthEducation has virtually ground to a halt in the Jordan Valley. The prohibition of new building has put enormous strain on existing schools which are overcrowded and lacking basic amenities. Many students are taught in tents, suffering extremes of temperature. In Al Jiftlik a stone building was 'illegally' erected in October, but is constantly at risk of demolition by the army. Children often have to travel for hours through military checkpoints to reach school, and teachers haven't been paid for months due to the US/EU sanctions on Hamas. Basic healthcare services are woefully inadequate, with just five villages receiving clinic services for one hour 2 days a week. Ambulances are in desperately short supply and medics are frequently harrassed by soldiers and delayed at checkpoints.
